Insurance for UK travellers in Turkey

Turkey is not covered by the UK GHIC or the EHIC, so these cards do not pay for treatment or repatriation there. Private travel insurance is normally the main source of cover. Call the insurer's emergency line first and ask for a case number, because most insurers need to approve a repatriation before it happens.

We can work with your insurer's assistance team and send case reports to insurers and assistance companies.

Transport options from Antalya to the UK

  • Seated with a medical escort on a scheduled flight, for stable patients. See medical escort.
  • Stretcher on a scheduled flight, subject to airline approval and availability on the date. See stretcher transport.
  • Air ambulance for patients who need intensive care during the flight. See air ambulance Antalya.

The treating doctors and the doctor responsible for the transfer decide which option is safe.

Arranging the receiving hospital in the UK

For a bed-to-bed transfer, a hospital in the UK must accept the patient before the transfer goes ahead. This usually involves sending the medical report and agreeing an arrival time. If the patient is well enough to go home, the family confirms the home address and any care needed on arrival.

Documents and the written quote

Typically needed: passport, insurance policy and case number, a current medical report or discharge summary in English, the treating doctor's contact details, and the receiving hospital's details. For scheduled flights, the airline usually requires a medical form (MEDIF).

Costs depend on the case. You receive a written quote before anything is booked, and one coordinator follows the case through to handover in the UK.

Frequently asked questions

Does the GHIC or EHIC cover treatment or repatriation from Turkey?

No. Turkey is not part of the UK GHIC or EHIC schemes, so private travel insurance is normally needed. Check your own policy for what is covered.

How do we start a repatriation from Antalya to the UK?

Call the travel insurer's emergency line and open a case, then send us the patient's location, the UK destination and a short description of their condition. We review the medical report and send a written quote before booking.

Does the patient need an air ambulance to get to the UK?

Not always. Stable patients may travel with a medical escort or on a stretcher on a scheduled flight. An air ambulance is used when the patient needs intensive care during the flight. The doctors decide.

Can you arrange a bed-to-bed transfer to a UK hospital?

Yes. We coordinate ground ambulances at both ends, the flight with medical care and the handover at the receiving hospital, once that hospital has accepted the patient.

How much does repatriation from Antalya to the UK cost?

There is no standard price. Costs depend on the patient's condition, the transport option and the timing. You receive a written quote before anything is booked.
